Do most people realize that Phil Savage wasn’t feverishly working the phones in 2007 in an attempt to acquire the first overall pick to select Jamarcus Russell?

Savage and Russell are both from Alabama, and Savage had watched him grow up, and had become enamored with him, and was desperately trying to make him the Browns’ franchise quarterback.

Thankfully, Al Davis is just a tad bit stupider than Savage, and refused to trade the number one pick away, and selected Russell with the first pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Russell then showed his gratitude by holding out throughout training camp, the preseason, and into the 2007 regular season.  On September 12th, 2007, he signed the richest rookie contract in NFL history, a six year, $68 million deal, including $31.5 million GUARANTEED.

We all know how his career has played out so far.  Basically, he is on pace to become the biggest bust in the history of the league, and has thrown for a shade over 4,000 yards, 18 TDs, and 23 picks in a little over two years.  He’s also fumbled a staggering 25 times.

To say the least, he sucks.  He definitely isn’t worth the money he is being paid, and he isn’t willing to redo his contract.

He probably can’t afford it.  Look at all this jewelry he’s wearing at a recent NBA game.

I am no expert on jewelry, but I wouldn’t doubt that the announcer’s guess is right in saying that it is over $1 million.  Check out the necklace.  It is a picture of him dropping back to pass, with “CHOSEN” encrusted in diamonds behind it.

Yes, Mr. Russel, you’ve been chosen.  You were chosen by everybody in league circles as the worst QB in the NFL, regardless of how much jewelry you are wearing.

BEREA — Eric Mangini was named Browns coach on Jan. 8, 2009. Exactly 50 days later, he traded Kellen Winslow II to Tampa Bay.

They never sat down for a meeting, nor did they talk about the standout tight end’s demands for a new contract. They simply — in pro football terms — divorced. “I don’t [...]

COLUMBUS — Classes haven’t even started at Ohio State, and already there’s a big test.

Almost every year, early in the season, the Buckeyes put their season on the line against a non-conference football power. It’s risky business when the goal is a national championship, but it’s something No. 2 Ohio State — and Saturday’s opponent, [...]
