At one time, Derek Anderson was the future franchise QB of the Cleveland Browns.

After a Pro Bowl season in 2007, he was awarded a three year, $26 million contract.  He never regained his ’07 form, excluding a Monday Night Football game versus the the Giants, where he threw for 310 yards and two TDs.

He was up and down with injuries and inconsistent play for the rest of the ’08 season, and we all know how the QB situation last year was so poorly handled.

Anderson was slated to collect a $2 million roster bonus March 19th, and his contract had him making a salary of just over $7 million for the 2010 season.  It’s obvious DA wasn’t in the new regime’s future plans, so paying him $9 million this year wasn’t going to happen.

I understand nobody would be happy to lose out on the $9 million he was going to collect.  DA wasn’t in the best mood after hearing the news, and he lashed out to the News-Herald’s Jeff Schudel.

"The fans are ruthless and don’t deserve a winner," Anderson said in the e-mail Tuesday. "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured.

"I know at times I wasn’t great. I hope and pray I’m playing when my team comes to town and [we] roll them."

He has since spoke out and said he was speaking out of frustration, but the damage has been done.  He’s probably made himself public enemy #1 in Cleveland.  People already thought he sucked, and this is just going to fuel the fire even further.

To take a page out of your book, DA, maybe the fans were just cheering out of frustration over you overthrowing and under throwing just about everything.  I defended you to friends and coworkers longer than probably anybody else did, and now you tell me I don’t deserve a winner.

Have fun being second or third string for the rest of your career.  Good riddance.

One Response to “Dang Derek, I Didn’t Know You Had It In Ya”

  1. He mine as well have just said… “waaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh”.

Way to get hooked Derek. You know im a numbers guy and in the last two years he has completed 48% of his passes for 12 tds and 18 picks. Granted we have had plenty of drops by WRs, those #s aint gonna cut it. If you have watched the games, you know that Anderson constantly over/under threw open recievers. He just isnt that good and a new GM/President with no ties to DA would be an idiot to invest 9 million in a backup (at best).

I gotta agree with ya Bill.. good riddance and good luck catching on somewhere else… YA BUM!
